Post space depth should be approximately two-thirds of the root length, with a minimum of 4-5mm of apical gutta-percha retained to maintain the apical seal of the root canal filling. The canal is prepared using the matching post-space drill to the appropriate diameter. Do not over-enlarge the post space — maintaining at least 1mm of dentin thickness on all walls around the post space is critical to prevent root perforation and root fracture.
Yes. The surface of a fiber post should be cleaned and treated to ensure adequate bond strength with the resin cement. Cleaning with alcohol or acetone removes debris. Silane coupling agent is then applied to the post surface and allowed to dry — silane bridges the inorganic glass fiber surface and the organic resin cement.
